Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017! What a journey it has been for us, the past 12-months have been packed with lots of excitement, challenges and of course, adventure! And so, we are really looking forward to seeing what 2017 has in store for us!
Yes, this may be the time to write down some resolutions for the new year, and instead, we thought of sharing with you a few practical tips and rituals that we personally do, and hope to continue to do so throughout the year, as we learn, develop, and further grow ourselves even more.
Here goes our 2017 ‘resolutions’ to lead a healthier, happier and more fulfilling life:
Embrace the first 10-minutes of your waking hour, without any technology
Learn to connect with yourself, jot down any dreams you may have had and enjoy a nice warm cup of water with some squeezed lemon juice
Meditate, if you do…Meditate, if you don’t!
We are quite newbies to meditation, and we have done a few sessions here and there, and now we find ourselves using an app called ‘Headspace’ that allows us to find balance and reconnects us with our mind and body for as little as 10-minutes, every day
Add some coloring to your day!
This can be done in so many ways, and one of our favorite practices to do is mindful coloring…simply buy an assortment of colored crayons, an adult coloring book and enjoy the benefits of mindful coloring.
We find it such a great way to destress and find inner calmness
Breathe. Breathe. Breathe
This may sound silly at first, however most of us don’t take the time to really sit down and breathe. Even with just some equal breaths in and out, you can be in a state of calm and clarity which brings your attention to the now
Keep a journal, and moreover, a Gratitude journal
Adopting an ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ has been proven to have many benefits, from better sleep, to improved physical and mental health, to being a happier and healthier human being. We simply start by jotting down at least 1 – 3 things a day we are thankful and grateful for; and they can be about our family and friends, to the lovely lady that takes care of our coffee needs at our favorite coffee shop, to waking up before the alarm and watching the sunrise!
Travel, seek new people and adventures!
Even getting away for a day or two, travelling enriches our soul, and recharges our batteries to keep us focused and determined. #lifeisanadventure
Connect with Mother Nature!
Whenever we get a chance, we go outdoors. We enjoy beach walks, sunset and sunrise views, we hike, we climb, we kayak, we run and we just simply stop and take a moment to smell the roses too!
Challenge your Comfort Zone
We’ve all heard the famous saying by Neale Donald Walsch which states ‘life begins at the end of your comfort zone’…and so we aim to do something new at least once a month that challenges us and helps us grow positively
Be Kind…to Yourself and Others
Even the smallest act of kindness goes a long, long way! #kindnessisfree
From books, to newspapers to magazines, aim to read daily and task yourself, if you do not already read, to read at least a book a month
Disconnect Digitally and Be PRESENT
We live in a world that is so connected digitally, that we no longer know how to really disconnect, enjoy the moment, and just be present and experience real human connection. As we run many social media platforms, this is going to be our biggest challenge…and task for 2017, to switch off and really disconnect to enjoy the here and now. This we believe is going to be our biggest resolution to commit too!
Nourish your body and Cook from scratch!
Stock up your fridge and pantry with wholesome ingredients and create a hearty meal from scratch, whether you follow a recipe or not, it doesn’t really matter…enjoy the very essence of good, old home-cooking and all the kitchen bloopers that comes with it
Wake up in the morning, and before even reaching for that phone, make it a habit to sip on some hot water and lemon! Carry a bottle of water with you, wherever you go and be creative with the flavors…we naturally infuse our water with anything from fresh mint leaves, to lemon wedges to orange slices and even fresh berries
Enjoy and Cherish your ‘ME’ time
This is the time for YOU…for you to be able to enjoy and do the things that are good for your mind, body and soul. It can anything from enjoying a walk on the beach, to getting to a yoga class, to enjoying a massage, to a mini shopping spree, to sipping on a cup of tea and reading a new book and even a night out with your friends. ‘ME’ time is a great way to refresh, reconnect and re-energize oneself, especially when life may seem a bit too overwhelming, at times
Prioritize Sleep Time
Make it a habit to get to bed early, disconnect from the digital world, take a few moments to connect with self by meditating or doing some breathing exercising that calms your mind and enjoy good quality sleep!
Our list can go on and on, and so we want to leave you with one of our favorite quotes, that also sums up a lot of what we believe and think, and how we value our lives and those around us.
